Atlántico Woven Hurricane Vase, Natural
Hand-woven in Nariño from natural iraca leaf — a pair of hurricane holders that protect a flame from everything except the particular quality of light that passes through a diamond weave at close range.
The weavers of Colombia's high Andean valleys did not design this for candlelight. Candlelight found it. The iraca diamond weave — pulled strand by strand by a hand that has been doing this for the better part of a lifetime — does something in low light that no other material manages. It filters. It diffuses. It throws a geometry of shadow across a table that shifts as the flame moves and never resolves into anything predictable.
